The US Treasury imposes new sanctions on 16 individuals and 10 entities linked to Iran

The US Treasury Department announced on Thursday the imposition of sanctions on 16 individuals and 10 entities linked to Iran, targeting international financial networks and its parallel banking system, as part of Washington's efforts to cut off funding sources for Tehran.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that "the noose is tightening on the Iranian economy," affirming that the United States will continue its measures until it drains the Iranian regime's coffers.

Bessent added: "We will cut off all remaining funding sources for Iran."

The sanctions included the International Development Bank in Iraq, as the Treasury Department accused it of using Iranian capital and transferring its profits in dollars to Iran, noting its connection to Iranian government entities and parties loyal to Tehran.

The ministry explained that the new measures also relate to transactions involving the bank, in the context of targeting networks that Washington says contribute to financing Iran.
