The Election Commission in Palestine Opens the Door for Candidacy for the 2026 Legislative Elections

The Central Elections Commission in Palestine announced on Saturday the opening of the door for receiving applications for candidacy for the 2026 legislative elections, simultaneously in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The Commission said that it began at eight in the morning to receive candidacy applications at its headquarters in Al-Bireh and its office in Deir Al-Balah in the Gaza Strip, and the process will continue for 12 days, until four in the afternoon on Wednesday, October 7th.

The first morning hours of candidacy witnessed a large turnout of the candidate lists at its office in Ramallah and Deir Al-Balah.

It explained that candidacy for membership in the Legislative Council is through electoral lists only, and individual candidacy applications are not accepted, with the number of candidates on the list not less than 16 and not more than 132 candidates, while adhering to the minimum representation of women according to the provisions of the law.

It pointed out that the application for candidacy of the list is submitted by its coordinator and commissioner after completing the required forms, documents, and attachments, stressing that the submitted applications are subject to study and scrutiny to ensure that they meet the legal conditions, and that submitting the application does not mean its acceptance or approval.

The Commission confirmed the readiness of its teams in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip to receive candidacy applications and provide the necessary guidance and information to the representatives of the lists, calling on those wishing to run to review the brochures, procedures, and forms published on its website www.elections.ps, and to ensure that all requirements are met before submitting the application.

It called on the lists and their representatives to communicate with the Commission and its offices to inquire about the legal and technical aspects related to the candidacy process, affirming its keenness to provide information equally and facilitate the procedures for submitting applications in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

The candidacy stage is one of the main stages in the timetable for the 2026 legislative elections, while the general vote is scheduled for Saturday, November 28th.
