The Economic and Social Council prioritizes the study of the causes of unemployment

The Economic and Social Council recommended prioritizing the study of the causes of unemployment and the role of the private sector in employment, with a focus on Jordanian labor, decent work, and wages, by merging two studies into a unified study that addresses employment and unemployment issues in an integrated manner, in a way that supports the formulation of policies related to the labor market.

According to a statement by the Council, the Labor Policy Committee, during its third meeting for the current year, discussed proposed topics for study and research, including the causes of unemployment, work via digital platforms, work quality and decent work, determinants of women's economic participation, and the standardization of concepts and terminology related to the labor market.

President of the Economic and Social Council, Moussa Shtaiwi, emphasized the importance of setting study priorities in a way that responds to the challenges facing the labor market and aligns with the developments and requirements of the Economic Modernization Vision and its targets, particularly in the areas of employment and unemployment.

Shtaiwi stressed the need to direct research efforts toward analyzing the causes of unemployment and the factors influencing it, and to produce results and recommendations that contribute to the development of relevant policies.

For his part, the Director General of the Department of Statistics and Chairman of the Committee, Haider Fraihat, emphasized the importance of statistical data and surveys in diagnosing the reality of the labor market and identifying its characteristics and needs, pointing to the importance of utilizing the outputs of the 2026 General Census of Population and Housing to support studies and policy formulation.
