The Economic and Social Council held the first meeting of the committee to follow up on the recommendations of the study on the reality of women's work in the agricultural sector in the Jordanian Jordan Valley areas (northern, central, and southern), chaired by the Secretary-General of the Economic and Social Council, Nizar Al-Qa'qa', and with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Health, the National Center for Human Rights, the Public Institution for Social Security, the Jordanian National Committee for Women's Affairs, and the Jordanian Cooperative Institution.
The formation of the committee comes within the framework of following up on the implementation of the recommendations reached by the study, and based on a mandate from the Prime Ministry, with the aim of enhancing decent work for female workers in the agricultural sector, reducing the challenges they face, and improving working conditions and social, health, and economic protection linked to their work.
Al-Qa'qa' emphasized the importance of the committee coming up with practical and implementable recommendations, and that these recommendations be translated into clear programs and plans that take sustainability into account and contribute to improving working conditions and providing a more suitable and equitable work environment for female workers in the agricultural sector.
He pointed out that addressing the challenges facing female workers in the agricultural sector requires the integration of roles and coordination of efforts between various relevant parties, ensuring the transition from the stage of diagnosing challenges to developing practical solutions that are applicable, followable, and measurable.
Committee members, each according to their specialization, discussed the most prominent challenges facing Jordanian female workers in the agricultural sector and presented a series of proposals and solutions aimed at rectifying the situation, improving working conditions, and enhancing social, health, and economic protection for this category, alongside discussing appropriate mechanisms for following up on the implementation of recommendations and indicators for measuring progress in this field.
The committee is scheduled to continue its meetings to follow up on the recommendations, determine priorities, and set executive procedures, ensuring a tangible and sustainable impact on the reality of female workers in the agricultural sector.
