Speaker of the Arab Parliament condemns Colombia's opening of an embassy in the city of Jerusalem

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Mohamed bin Ahmed Al-Yamahi, condemned in the strongest terms the decision of the State of Colombia to open an embassy in the city of Jerusalem, stressing that this step represents a flagrant violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, an unacceptable infringement on the national and historical rights of the Palestinian people, and an unacceptable attempt to impose an illegal reality in the Holy City.

Al-Yamahi emphasized that Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories, and its legal and historical status may not be compromised, nor may any measures be taken that would entrench the occupation or grant it legitimacy, affirming that any unilateral measures aimed at changing the city's identity or legal status are null and void and do not create any legal rights.

He called on the State of Colombia to immediately reverse this step and adhere to relevant United Nations resolutions, foremost among them those confirming the illegality of Israeli measures aimed at changing the status of Jerusalem. He also called on the international community and the Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities in confronting any attempts to impose a new reality in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The Speaker of the Arab Parliament warned that such steps undermine the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace and constitute a dangerous infringement on the foundations of the two-state solution, affirming that recognizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the establishment of their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, is the only path to achieving a just and lasting peace, and that attempts to circumvent these rights will not change the fact that Jerusalem will remain an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory.
