Jordan and Arab and Islamic countries reject Colombia's opening of an embassy in Jerusalem

The foreign ministers of Jordan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Algeria, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, the Sultanate of Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Egypt, and Yemen expressed their categorical rejection of the Republic of Colombia's opening of its embassy in Jerusalem, affirming that this step contradicts relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and undermines international efforts aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.

The ministers affirmed in a statement that any measure or decision aimed at changing the historical and legal status of occupied Jerusalem, or recognizing it as the capital of Israel, is considered null and void and has no legal effect.

They pointed out that this stance is in line with relevant Security Council and UN General Assembly resolutions, notably Security Council Resolutions No. 476 of 1980 and No. 478 of 1980, which reject attempts to alter the character or status of Jerusalem and call upon states to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the city, which is considered part of the Palestinian territories occupied in 1967.

The ministers called on the Colombian government to reconsider its decision and reverse it, fulfill its obligations under international law, and refrain from taking measures that prejudice the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
