The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned, on Wednesday, the Republic of Colombia's opening of an embassy in Jerusalem.
The Ministry's official spokesperson, Ambassador Sufyan Qudah, affirmed Jordan's condemnation and rejection of this step, considering it a violation of international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
Qudah stated that any measures or decisions aimed at changing the status of the city of Jerusalem or its legal standing are considered null, void, illegitimate, and have no legal effect.
He reiterated that the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that ensures security and stability in the region is by embodying an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Colombia inaugurated its embassy on Wednesday in areas of West Jerusalem, joining a narrow circle of countries that have established their diplomatic representation to Israel in this city, whose status as the capital of Israel is not recognized by the international community.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar said, "It is an important day for the State of Israel, and also an important day for the city of Jerusalem," while signing the embassy's golden register in the presence of his Colombian counterpart, Omar Bola.
