Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman affirmed, on Tuesday, the importance of ensuring the freedom and security of maritime navigation in the Red Sea, the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab, in light of regional developments and current challenges.

This came during discussions held by al-Sisi and bin Salman in Egypt, which addressed bilateral relations and a number of regional files and issues.

Egyptian Presidential Spokesman Mohamed al-Sharawi said that both sides emphasized the need to intensify coordination and communication between the two countries, in light of the current regional circumstances.

He added that the discussions affirmed the Egyptian-Saudi position keen on ensuring the freedom and security of maritime navigation in the Straits of Hormuz and Bab al-Mandab and in the Red Sea.

Al-Sisi affirmed Egypt's support for the measures taken by Saudi Arabia to protect its security and stability, and to reach a comprehensive and sustainable political solution to the Yemeni crisis.

The meeting witnessed agreement that the security of Saudi Arabia and the Gulf countries is part of Egypt's national security, with Egypt affirming its rejection and condemnation of any attacks or threats that affect Saudi sovereignty, stability, territorial integrity, or the freedom of navigation in international maritime corridors.

The two sides discussed bilateral relations, and agreed to intensify work to develop and implement practical measures to develop cooperation, and to remove obstacles that may hinder the increase in the volume of trade and investment between the two countries.

On the Palestinian issue, both sides affirmed the convergence of Egyptian and Saudi positions on the need to reach a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and the resolutions of international legitimacy, and stressed the need to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in sufficient quantities and to stop Israeli violations in Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

They also affirmed the continued support of Egypt and Saudi Arabia for the security and stability of Sudan and the unity of its territories, and rejected equating the Sudanese Armed Forces with any illegitimate parallel militias or entities.

Al-Sisi and bin Salman agreed to continue direct consultation and coordination in the coming period on bilateral issues and regional developments.
