The Egyptian Ambassador conveyed the greetings of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his wishes for security, stability, and peace for the Yemeni people, while Al-Alimi asked the ambassador to convey his greetings to the Egyptian President, along with his wishes for his health and happiness, and for the Egyptian people continued progress and prosperity.
Al-Alimi praised the diplomatic efforts made by Ambassador Abu Saree in strengthening the historical relations between the two countries.
He expressed his high appreciation for the firm Egyptian stance alongside the Yemeni people and Egypt's historical role in Yemen and the region, valuing the keenness of el-Sisi and the Egyptian leadership for the security of the Red Sea and the stability of its countries.
During the meeting, he touched upon recent developments and the Houthi escalation at all levels with the participation of experts linked to the Revolutionary Guard and allied groups, especially on the western coast of Taiz Governorate.
He spoke about the goals and endeavors of the Houthis behind this push towards the western coast, as the Iranian regime seeks to grant its Houthi proxies the ability to influence Bab al-Mandab and the Red Sea, so that pressures on Tehran can be converted into costs for the region, trade, and global markets.
Al-Alimi expressed his confidence in the continued leading role of Egypt in supporting Yemeni state institutions and pushing, at the Arab and international levels, for the implementation of Security Council resolutions and preventing the flow of weapons, technology, and military expertise to the Houthis.
On July 16, 2026, Iran requested that the Houthis in Yemen prepare to close Bab al-Mandab in the Red Sea if the United States launched an attack on the electrical grid infrastructure in Iran.
On July 20, 2026, the Houthis announced the imposition of a maritime navigation ban on Saudi Arabia, a move that threatens to open a new front in Iran's war and expands the scope of the threat to energy supplies and global trade beyond the Gulf.
