Resumption of European and Low-Cost Air Travel to Jordan

The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, Captain Daif Allah Al-Farjat, announced the resumption of regular European airline flights to and from Jordan, a move that reflects the return of activity to international air transport movement in the Kingdom.

He said that the Hungarian company "Wizz Air" will launch the return of European flights by operating its first flights to Queen Alia International Airport starting from Tuesday, September 22, with two weekly flights, after a hiatus of several months.

He explained that the first flight will arrive with a high load of passengers, reflecting the demand for travel to Jordan and supporting tourism and commercial movement.

"Wizz Air" follows the company "Ryanair", which is scheduled to resume its operations starting from the end of October next, connecting Jordan with four major European destinations, contributing to expanding the air network and providing multiple low-cost travel options.

Al-Farjat pointed out that the return of European carriers came as a result of the efforts and technical negotiations led by the Authority with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which led to the removal of Jordan's name from the agency's periodic conflict zone information bulletin, and the cancellation of its recommendation for European airlines not to travel to Jordan, and to limit itself to assessing the risks before operation.

He affirmed the Authority's commitment to continue coordinating with international partners and global airlines to implement the highest standards of aviation safety and security, and to attract more global airlines to the Kingdom's airports in the coming period.

The European Union's aviation safety agency had canceled in August last year its previous recommendation for airlines to avoid Jordanian airspace, but advised operators to exercise caution until September 30.
