The Public Security Directorate has launched its awareness campaign "Safe Winter 2026," as part of its preventive and operational efforts aimed at establishing a culture of public safety, enhancing citizens' awareness of risks associated with the winter season, and raising the level of adherence to preventive measures, thereby contributing to reducing accidents and safeguarding lives and property.

The campaign comes within the framework of an integrated approach adopted by the Public Security Directorate, based on the integration of prior awareness with field readiness and effective response. The Directorate will work to harness its human and mechanical capabilities, activate its preventive and operational plans, and raise the level of readiness of its units and formations to deal with various accidents and emergency situations that may be imposed by weather conditions during the winter season, in parallel with strengthening coordination and cooperation with ministries, national institutions, and relevant authorities, to ensure rapid response, efficiency in handling reports, and the continuity of providing security and humanitarian services around the clock.

Regarding awareness, the Directorate emphasized the necessity of adhering to safety guidelines when using heating appliances, ensuring their safety and functionality, providing adequate ventilation, and not leaving heaters on while sleeping or refueling them while they are on, warning against the dangers of misuse that may cause suffocation and fire accidents, and the resulting loss of life and property.

The Directorate also renewed its warnings against approaching flood channels, valleys, and water accumulation sites, or attempting to cross them no matter how low the water level may seem, due to the danger they pose to lives. It also stressed the necessity of staying away from low-lying areas and locations where flash floods form, following weather forecasts and official warnings, and taking necessary preventive measures when the region is affected by unstable weather conditions.

Regarding traffic safety, the Directorate called on drivers to inspect their vehicles and ensure their technical readiness, adhere to speed limits, leave a sufficient safety distance, and be mindful of low horizontal visibility and the potential for skidding, especially at the beginning of rainfall, emphasizing the importance of avoiding roads submerged in water or those experiencing rising water levels, and complying with the instructions of Public Security personnel in the field.

The Directorate also called on residents of mobile homes and caravans in remote areas and open locations to take the utmost caution and vigilance, follow weather forecasts and warnings, stay away from valley channels, water accumulation areas, and slopes, ensure their mobile homes are secured and tightly closed, and not risk staying in locations exposed to flash floods or strong winds, and to take the initiative to move to safe places.

The Public Security Directorate stressed that prevention is a shared responsibility and that adherence to instructions and guidelines is a necessity to protect lives and property and reduce accidents, calling on citizens to cooperate with the competent authorities, contribute to spreading awareness messages among family members and the community, and report any emergency or danger that threatens public safety.

The Directorate confirmed its continued readiness to deal with various conditions and accidents that the winter season may witness, calling on everyone not to hesitate to request assistance via the unified emergency number (911) when needed.
