Petra Region Authority Launches an Organizational Project to Provide Organized Areas for Development and Investment

The Petra Development and Tourism Authority launched on Tuesday, a project to divide four basins in areas belonging to the Petra region, with the aim of organizing urban expansion, meeting the needs of the local community, and providing organized areas for development and investment, in line with the uniqueness of the region and its historical, archaeological, and environmental value.

The President of the Authority's Council, Engineer Adnan Al-Suwaeiir, confirmed that the project represents an important step in organizing the future of urban development in Wadi Musa, and providing organized lands that meet the needs of the local community, and support urban expansion according to clear and sustainable planning principles.

Al-Suwaeiir said that the project comes within the authority's directions to organize land uses and limit random expansion, and improve urban planning, services, and infrastructure, and create a suitable environment for development and investment.

The project includes four basins in the Wadi Musa area, with an estimated total area of about 10.5 square kilometers, distributed over four basins: Basin (18/Al-Takharr) about 2.1 km², Basin (8/Al-Madraj) about 2.7 km², Basin (6/Al-Mahzoul) about 2.4 km², and Basin (4/Al-Safahah) about 3.3 km².

Al-Suwaeiir explained that the project will provide organized urban areas that meet current and future needs, and provide better options for the local community to expand and build within clear regulatory frameworks, in addition to enhancing the investment environment and opening the door for new development and economic projects.

He added that the project will contribute to organizing land uses and providing a base for future expansion in services, facilities, and infrastructure, which enhances balanced development in Wadi Musa and increases the efficiency of available land investment.

He pointed out that the project includes working to create an organized industrial area to organize industrial and craft activities and supporting services, and provide a suitable environment for them, and enhance job opportunities and economic activity in the region.

Al-Suwaeiir confirmed that the authority, during the preparation of the project, paid attention to preserving the visual landscape and the urban and environmental character of the region, ensuring that urban development is in harmony with the uniqueness of Petra and its historical and tourist status.

He explained that development in the Petra region requires a balance between the needs of the local community and the requirements of urban and investment growth, and preserving the historical, archaeological, and environmental value of Petra, stressing that organization and planning projects form the basis for achieving this balance in a sustainable manner.

He confirmed that the Petra Region Authority will continue to implement urban planning, organization, and development projects to improve the quality of life, support the local economy, and create an attractive environment for investment, while preserving Petra's identity, visual landscape, and heritage value for future generations.
