Parliamentary Energy Committee calls for adherence to safety guidelines when using heating appliances

The Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee has called on citizens to adhere to public safety guidelines when using heating appliances and to ensure their safety and maintenance before the start of winter, in order to protect lives and property and reduce accidents resulting from unsafe use.

Committee Chairman Ayman Abu Hanieh stated that the safety of citizens and their families remains a national priority that does not tolerate negligence, emphasizing that safe heating is a shared responsibility that requires enhancing awareness and prevention, ensuring that ventilation outlets are not blocked, and keeping heaters away from blankets, curtains, and flammable furniture.

He stressed the necessity of not using heating appliances intended for outdoor use inside homes and enclosed spaces, due to the risks of suffocation, carbon monoxide poisoning, and fires they may cause, warning against leaving heaters on while sleeping or when leaving the house, or tampering with electrical connections and overloading them.

Abu Hanieh affirmed that the Parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee will continue to exercise its oversight role over the concerned authorities to verify their commitment to their duties in monitoring, raising awareness, and applying public safety standards, and to follow up on any negligence in accordance with the provisions of applicable legislation, in a way that contributes to protecting citizens.

Abu Hanieh valued the directives of Prime Minister Jafar Hassan to continue replacing unsafe heating appliances with safe ones, considering it an important step to enhance social protection and provide a safe home environment for needy families, especially with the approach of winter.

Abu Hanieh reiterated that protecting the lives of citizens is a shared national responsibility, stressing that the committee will not hesitate to follow up on this file within the framework of its oversight powers, in a way that promotes a culture of safety and prevention and reduces accidents related to heating appliances.
