Palestinian authority documents 15 Israeli attacks against the olive season in the West Bank

The Palestinian Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission said on Monday that it had documented 15 attacks carried out by the Israeli army and settlers against the olive season in 6 governorates in the occupied West Bank.

The Commission said in a statement that the 15 attacks occurred in areas within the governorates of Nablus, Salfit, and Qalqilya (north), Ramallah and Al-Bireh (center), and Hebron and Bethlehem (south).

The Israeli attacks, according to the statement, included the burning and destruction of hundreds of ancient olive trees, the leveling of agricultural land, the vandalism of a water well, and the arrest of farmers (it did not specify their number).

The attacks also included the confiscation of a vehicle, the theft of olive crops, and the prevention of landowners from accessing their land.

The Commission said that the Israeli authorities have begun building a new concrete wall adjacent to the settlement road known as "Trans-Samaria" in the village of Marda, north of Salfit, coinciding with extensive bulldozing work and the uprooting of hundreds of fruit-bearing and ancient olive trees in an agricultural area that serves as a source of livelihood for dozens of families.

It explained that the wall's path threatens to isolate additional areas of agricultural land and restrict farmers' access to olive groves located behind and along it.

It warned that these Israeli attacks "reveal an escalation that goes beyond targeting the olive harvest season to reshaping the geographical reality of Palestinian agricultural lands and imposing permanent restrictions on their use."

It also emphasized that "the timing of attacks on trees and crops, along with the sabotage of water sources, reflects the integration of colonial violence tools and military measures in undermining Palestinian agricultural activity."

It called on the international community to intervene to stop the Israeli attacks, ensure the protection of farmers, their trees, and their water sources, and hold those responsible for the destruction and seizure of agricultural property accountable.

Since the start of the olive harvesting season in early October, settlers have escalated their attacks against Palestinian farmers, resulting in deaths, injuries, and property damage.

Earlier on Monday, the Commission said that the Israeli army and settlers carried out 3,133 attacks in the West Bank during last October, an increase of 52.8 percent compared to the preceding month of September.

Since the start of the genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip on October 8, 2023, the Israeli army has escalated its operations in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, coinciding with an increase in settler attacks.

These attacks have resulted in the killing of more than 1,220 Palestinians and the injury of about 13,350 others, in addition to the arrest of more than 26,000, according to Palestinian data.
