The Bâtonnier of Nurses and Midwives, Mohammad Al-Rawabdeh, directed the two letters to Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, Minister of Education and Higher Education, and to Dr. Dhafer Al-Saraireh, President of the Higher Education Institutions Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission, regarding the newly introduced specialty at the university, requesting a reconsideration of its title.
Al-Rawabdeh explained that the nursing profession, according to international standards issued by the International Council of Nurses as well as Jordanian national legislation, is strictly confined to human healthcare and nothing else, pointing out that existing legislation does not combine human nursing and veterinary care under a single title.
According to its official correspondence, the Syndicate called for contacting the university to remove the word «Nursing» from the specialty's title and replace it with more accurate designations that align with the nature of professional work, suggesting alternative titles such as «Veterinary Technician» or «Veterinary Assistant» to prevent any confusion in determining the professional identity and job title of graduates from this program.
The Syndicate stressed that any academic program established in violation of the legislation governing the nursing profession will not carry any regulatory responsibility on its part, clarifying that this includes not granting licenses to graduates of this specialty, not holding professional practice exams for them, and not including them in any procedures related to the nursing profession.
