Number of registered displaced persons in 8 Yemeni governorates rises to 158,000

The number of registered displaced persons in 8 Yemeni governorates has risen to 158,109 individuals, representing 23,550 families, due to ongoing military escalation, shelling, clashes, and deteriorating security conditions, according to the latest report issued by the Executive Unit for IDPs Camps Management in Yemen.

The Executive Unit explained that most displaced families were forced to abruptly abandon their homes and properties, which exacerbated their humanitarian suffering and increased their economic vulnerability. It pointed out that immediate needs focus on providing shelter, emergency shelter materials, food baskets, multi-purpose cash assistance, as well as safe drinking water, health services, and hygiene supplies.

The Executive Unit renewed its appeal to local authorities, international organizations, and donors for immediate intervention and mobilization of the necessary resources to meet life-saving needs and alleviate the humanitarian crisis facing displaced families.

The report showed that Taiz Governorate topped the list of governorates hosting displaced persons, with 11,867 families comprising 83,123 individuals distributed across 15 districts. It was followed by Lahj Governorate with 5,472 families comprising 38,304 individuals distributed across 9 districts, most notably Al-Madaribah Wa Al-Arah, Tuban, and Al-Musaymir.

In the temporary capital, Aden, the number of registered displaced families reached 3,114, comprising 15,003 individuals. Meanwhile, Al-Hodeidah Governorate recorded 1,471 families comprising 10,297 individuals in the districts of Hays and Al-Khukhah, with a new wave of displacement monitored from Hays and Al-Khukhah towards Aden.

Abyan Governorate also received 1,420 families comprising 9,940 individuals in camps within the districts of Khurmakshar and Zinjibar, while the remaining families were distributed among the governorates of Hadhramaut with 110 families, Al-Mahrah with 70 families, and Shabwah with 26 families.
