North Korea announced on Saturday that it had tested a medium-range strategic ballistic missile equipped with artificial intelligence technology, hours after South Korea reported the launch of a ballistic missile towards the sea off North Korea's eastern coast.
Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, said the missile is capable of changing its flight path at a low altitude, indicating the integration of artificial intelligence technology.
The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff reported that the missile was launched from the Wonsan area and traveled over 700 kilometers before falling into the sea, while Seoul and Washington continue to analyze its specifications.
The test comes amid rising tensions between the two Koreas, after Pyongyang on Friday rejected Seoul's request to apologize for mines that South Korea said injured three South Korean soldiers in the demilitarized zone.
In recent years, North Korea has escalated its rhetoric towards the South, abandoning the goal of Korean unification and labeling South Korea as its 'principal enemy'.
