More than 40 illegal public parking reservation sites seized in Amman

The Greater Amman Municipality seized more than 40 sites for illegally reserving public parking spaces, while the number of people referred to the administrative governor exceeded 15, according to Ghazi Al-Hadid, the Executive Director of the Municipality's Districts and City Services.

Al-Hadid said on Wednesday that the campaign against unlicensed valet parking services is ongoing throughout the year, noting that it has intensified due to the numerous complaints related to illegal parking reservations.

He explained that the exact number of people referred to the administrative governor is not available to him as of Wednesday, but he confirmed that it exceeded the previously announced figure of 15 people.

Al-Hadid called on citizens to verify the licensing of valet parking or parking services before using them, explaining that the license must be visible to allow verification of the legality of the service.

In case of detecting a violation, a complaint can be filed through the electronic services of the Amman Municipality or the unified contact and emergency numbers, while the Municipality's staff are deployed on the ground around the clock to monitor violations and respond to complaints.

Al-Hadid explained that the latest system for licensing valet parking was issued in May 2026, and it specifies conditions and instructions for obtaining a license, noting that the licensing procedures are carried out by a committee that includes the Amman Municipality, the General Directorate of Public Security, and the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Traffic Department and the Civil Defense.

The license requires the company to have a commercial register, in addition to fulfilling the procedures and instructions related to the company and its employees, including the absence of restrictions on the employees.

The Amman Municipality announced the availability of issuing valet parking permits electronically through its website, for owners of parking companies and commercial establishments, and the service requires a professional license for the valet parking company, a professional license for the establishment that will provide the service, and a professional license for the parking location, whether the yard or additional parking spaces.

The service also requires a notarized guarantee contract or a lease agreement between the service provider and the parking site owner, in addition to a copy of the contract concluded with the beneficiary establishment of the service, provided that its duration and the number of parking spaces required to be secured, and the terms and rights of the parties and their obligations are specified.

Regarding establishments wishing to use their structural parking for valet parking service, the Municipality explained that the required parking spaces must be dedicated to the profession in full, not reduced, and not paid for, and it is not permissible for the service provider to use sidewalks or reserve them with obstacles under any circumstances.

Regarding the prices of the service, Al-Hadid said that determining the amount charged by valet parking companies is not within the jurisdiction of the Amman Municipality, and the Municipality does not interfere with the price set by the company after obtaining the license.
