Medical Services achieves a medical breakthrough in genomic medicine and tumor diagnosis

The Royal Medical Services, represented by the Military Oncology Center laboratories, has achieved pioneering national medical milestones in the field of genomic medicine and advanced molecular diagnostics, represented by localizing advanced genetic tests and introducing modern technologies for tumor diagnosis, thereby enhancing medical and research capabilities in the Kingdom.

The Military Oncology laboratories have completed the establishment and operation of the first integrated national system for Whole Exome Sequencing, becoming the only laboratory in the Kingdom to perform the test in all its stages, from receiving the sample to issuing and approving the final medical report, without the need to send samples or genetic data outside Jordan.

The laboratories also succeeded in performing Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) for the first sample locally, and completing its advanced laboratory, analytical, and genomic stages within the center, in a step that paves the way for expanding the scope of advanced genetic tests and enhancing scientific research.

In the context of developing molecular diagnostic tools for tumors, the center introduced the Liquid Biopsy technique, which contributes to detecting genetic changes associated with cancer and supports making treatment decisions and selecting targeted therapies.

The Director of the Military Oncology Center laboratories and Senior Consultant in Molecular Pathology and Molecular Genetics, Colonel Physician Rami Al-Khasawneh, confirmed that these achievements reflect the development of national capabilities in genomic medicine and the efficiency of Jordanian personnel in applying advanced medical technologies, which contributes to enhancing diagnostic accuracy, developing scientific research, and improving the quality of healthcare.

For his part, the Director of the Military Oncology Center, Brigadier General Physician Ahmed Al-Bawaneh, confirmed that these steps are in line with the vision of the Royal Medical Services to invest in national personnel and develop specialized medical services, and to consolidate its position as an advanced center for innovation and medical excellence at the national and regional levels.
