Lebanon and Saudi Arabia discuss de-escalation and enhancing stability in the region

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, in New York, discussed bilateral relations between Lebanon and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and ways to enhance them in various fields, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Salam welcomed the agreement to start working to activate the Saudi-Lebanese Joint Committee, expressing his thanks to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for this step, especially as it comes after the lifting of the ban on Lebanese exports to the Kingdom, which opens the way for a new phase of economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

The discussion also addressed the situation in the region and efforts aimed at reducing escalation and enhancing security and stability.

Salam briefed the Saudi Foreign Minister on the progress within the tripartite framework, emphasizing the need for this progress to be accompanied by a clear timeline and a mechanism for verifying the implementation of commitments.

For his part, Prince Faisal bin Farhan appreciated the efforts being made by the Lebanese government to preserve the Lebanese state and its national institutions, which contributes to enhancing regional security and stability.

The meeting was attended by Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Rjei, and Saudi Foreign Minister's Advisor for Lebanese Affairs, Prince Yazid bin Mohammed bin Fahd bin Farhan.
