The first edition of the Sakhra Cultural Festival kicked off on Thursday in the town of Sakhra, Ajloun Governorate. Organized by the Sakhra Cultural Forum, the festival features the participation of writers, poets, and artists in an initiative aimed at revitalizing cultural activity in the governorate, highlighting local talent, and strengthening its presence in the Jordanian cultural scene.
Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Abdul Moneim Al-Odat, the festival's patron, emphasized that culture is a fundamental pillar in building societies, enhancing awareness, and preserving national identity due to its role in consolidating dialogue, tolerance, and respect for differences. He stressed the importance of supporting creators and expanding opportunities for youth to participate in cultural life.
For his part, the President of the Sakhra Cultural Forum, Dr. Moath Al-Momani, stated that the festival comes as part of the forum's direction to stimulate literary and artistic movement and provide a space that brings creators together with the public, expressing his aspiration to establish it as an annual cultural event that serves the creative movement in the governorate.
The opening ceremony included a free book fair, poetry readings, and musical and artistic performances with the participation of poets, artists, and the Sakhra Youth Center for Women. Activities will continue in Sakhra and Irbid on Thursday and Saturday, featuring a program that combines literature, art, and music.
The launch of the festival reflects a trend toward expanding cultural activity in the governorates, providing platforms for local talent, and promoting a culture of reading, knowledge, and communication between creators and the community.
