Journalists Syndicate Head Tareq Al-Momani affirmed that Jordanians stand united behind His Majesty the King, the security services, and the armed forces, stressing that terrorist operations will not deter them from continuing their lives or undermine Jordan's security and stability.
Al-Momani said that the scene of the victims' funeral, with the participation of representatives from various spectrums, currents, parties, and unions, carried a clear message rejecting the targeting of the nation's security and stability.
He added that Jordan has gone through stages that witnessed terrorist operations, but it emerged from them stronger and more resilient, noting that crises unite Jordanians, and that they have stood united behind His Majesty since the moment the attack occurred.
Al-Momani pointed out that the presence of His Majesty's delegate, the Prime Minister, and the participation of Jordanians in the victims' funeral, along with the visit of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the injured, and the visit of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah to offer condolences, reflect the close relationship between the leadership and the people.
He noted that the Hashemites share in the joys and sorrows of Jordanians, describing Jordan as enjoying moderation, temperance, and tolerance, and emphasizing the importance of standing united behind the leadership, security services, and armed forces to preserve national unity, security, and stability.
Al-Momani expressed his confidence in the armed forces and security services, which continue to work to apprehend the perpetrators of the attack so that they may receive their deterrent punishment.
Regarding media coverage of the attack, Al-Momani stressed the necessity of obtaining information from its official sources, emphasizing the importance of the government being open to media outlets and providing them with information so that it can be a reliable source for citizens in following the incident.
He pointed out that the Minister of Government Communication announced, about half an hour after the incident occurred, the existence of a security incident and gunfire, explaining that the nature of the incident requires that the source of information be clear and specific, and that the information be accurate.
Regarding the decision to ban publication, Al-Momani said that the Journalists Syndicate sides with freedom of opinion and expression and the citizen's right to know, but he explained that the decision has justifications related to protecting investigation procedures and preventing the violation of the privacy of the victims and their families or hurting their feelings.
He added that the justifications for the publication ban include curbing misinformation and the circulation of incorrect and inaccurate information, preventing the promotion of hate speech, as well as maintaining public order.
Al-Momani warned that publishing inaccurate information in a security case may affect the course of the investigation or lead to results that the perpetrators of the attack might benefit from, in addition to the possibility of information becoming muddled and misleading citizens following the incident.
