Jerusalem.. Confrontations in Sur Baher following Palestinian resistance to settler attacks

Confrontations broke out between Palestinians and Israeli forces on Sunday evening in the town of Sur Baher, southeast of occupied Jerusalem, following the town's residents' resistance to settlers who attacked Palestinian vehicles with stones.

The Palestinian Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement that settlers threw stones at Palestinian vehicles in the Sur Baher and Um Tuba areas, near the "Har Homa" (Abu Ghneim Mountain) settlement built on land south of Jerusalem, prompting Palestinian citizens to resist them.

The statement quoted eyewitnesses as saying that Israeli forces intervened in the area, and confrontations broke out with Palestinians at the entrance to Sur Baher, during which the forces fired tear gas and sound bombs.

The firing of the bombs led to fires breaking out in several commercial establishments, with no immediate information on casualties.

Earlier on Sunday, an Israeli settler was killed by injuries sustained in a shooting near the settlement of Halmish (Neve Tzuf) in the central occupied West Bank, according to Hebrew media.

Channel 12 Hebrew said: "The man who was seriously injured in the shooting near Neve Tzuf settlement was declared dead"

The Israeli army announced the arrest of the perpetrator of the shooting, indicating that he was found injured in a hospital in the city of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank, after the shooting and fleeing the scene.

The Jerusalem Governorate said that the perpetrator of the shooting was the released prisoner Qadri Samara from the town of Budo, northwest of Jerusalem.
