Jerusalem: 316 Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque

On Sunday, 316 Israeli settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied East Jerusalem and performed religious rituals, while Israeli bulldozers demolished two houses and the army arrested a Palestinian in the city.

The Palestinian Jerusalem Governorate said in a statement that "316 settlers stormed the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque today (Sunday) under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces."

It added that the intruders wore Jewish prayer shawls known as "Tallit," covered their heads, and some appeared barefoot, in practices the governorate said were linked to rituals adopted by the "Temple" groups during their incursions into the mosque.

The governorate considered these practices to be part of "a continuous path of imposing Jewish religious rituals inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque," and an attempt to change the historical and legal status quo.

Since 2003, the Israeli police have unilaterally allowed settlers to storm Al-Aqsa from the Maghreb Gate in the western wall of the mosque, under their protection, while the Islamic Endowments Department in Jerusalem demands a halt to these incursions.

Separately, the Jerusalem Governorate said that Israeli bulldozers demolished two houses belonging to Palestinian Jihad Shawamra and his children in the Ashqariya neighborhood of Beit Hanina, north of Jerusalem.

For its part, the Palestinian news agency "WAFA" reported that an Israeli force arrested a Palestinian in the town of Al-Eizariya and raided a house in the town of Abu Dis, east of Jerusalem.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, 27,830 settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the third quarter of 2026, while Israeli forces killed 6 Palestinians, carried out 139 demolition operations, and arrested 357 Palestinians in the city during the same period.

Since the start of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023, the Israeli army and settlers have escalated their attacks in the West Bank, resulting in the killing of 1,210 Palestinians, the injury of 13,350 others, and the arrest of 24,600 people.
