The percentage of fires in Jarash and their impact on forest areas compared to previous years decreased by 60% according to Jarash Agriculture Director Ola Mahasneh.
Mahasneh said that the directorate had prepared advance plans to control fires within forest areas, the most prominent of which were opening fire lines, creating new ones, early warning, and rapid response.
Mahasneh added that the rapid response contributed to controlling fires before they spread and increased their impact on the forest area within the governorate, which amounts to 120,000 dunums.
Mahasneh pointed out that the directorate is implementing a campaign to remove forest trees infected with the bark beetle, which led to the drying of a number of trees within the forests to prevent the infection from spreading to other trees and the fires from expanding.
Mahasneh indicated that the directorate will target areas affected by fire with afforestation campaigns, explaining that the size and impact of the fire have decreased significantly within the governorate.
Mahasneh explained that the directorate provided its staff with traditional equipment to reach difficult areas for rapid extinguishing, which contributed to reducing the impact of fires.
Mahasneh pointed out that a number of meetings and lectures were held for those living near forests, raising awareness about the importance of forest trees, providing them with emergency numbers, and contacting them to report any attack or fire sighting.
