Iraq announced, on Sunday evening, the destruction of a site belonging to the "Daesh" terrorist organization by two airstrikes carried out by F-16 fighter jets in Diyala province, eastern Iraq.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell said in a statement that warplanes carried out two airstrikes targeting a site used by "Daesh" elements in the Narin area within the Diyala Operations Command sector, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
The statement explained that the strikes were carried out based on precise intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate, in coordination with the Air Surveillance and Control Center in the office of the General Commander of the Armed Forces.
It confirmed that the strikes resulted in the "complete destruction of the site," without providing details on casualties or injuries among the organization's ranks.
The cell indicated that it would announce more details later.
It emphasized that the Iraqi security forces continue their preemptive operations against the organization's elements, aiming to enhance security and stability across the country.
On September 30, 2026, the mission of the international coalition to fight "Daesh" in Iraq officially ended after about 12 years since its launch.
The international coalition, led by the United States, was formed in 2014, following "Daesh"'s control over large areas of Iraq and Syria, while US military operations against the organization in Iraq began in August of the same year.
Iraq had announced in December 2017 the achievement of victory over "Daesh" and the recovery of all territories it had controlled since 2014, although cells affiliated with the organization continue to carry out sporadic attacks, while Iraqi forces continue their pursuit operations.
