Iraq condemns attacks targeting Saudi Arabia

Iraq condemned, on Saturday, the attacks that targeted the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, emphasizing its rejection of any assault affecting the Kingdom's security and stability.

The Spokesman for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Sabah al-Nuaman, stated in a release that "the Iraqi government condemns the attacks that targeted the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and affirms its rejection of any assault affecting the security and stability of the Kingdom, or undermining the firm fraternal relations between the two countries."

He added that "the Iraqi government appreciates the Kingdom's stance and its response to the efforts exerted by Iraq to contain the situation, which reflects its keenness on Iraq's security and stability, and on continuing the path of fraternal relations and cooperation in a manner that serves the interests of the two fraternal peoples."

He continued: Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, directed the opening of an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the attacks and the parties behind them, and taking legal measures against anyone proven to be involved, stressing that the state will not tolerate any activity that puts Iraq or its relations with fraternal and friendly countries at risk.

He said that "Iraq reaffirms that its territories and airspace will not be a launchpad for aggression against any country, and that its policy is based on respecting the sovereignty of states, rejecting aggression against them, and working to ensure that its relations with its regional neighbors are a bridge for cooperation and stability, rather than an arena for tension and conflict."

The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs had announced that the "East-West" pipeline in the Riyadh and Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah regions was targeted by several drones coming from Iraq in attacks that resulted in human injuries.

In the same context, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud stressed, during a phone call, the importance of continued communication and coordination to support security and stability in the region, affirmed the depth of fraternal relations uniting the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and developments of mutual interest.
