Iran: No new talks expected with the United States at the moment

The official Iranian news agency "IRNA" said on Monday that no new talks are scheduled between Iran and the United States, after US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of resuming them next week.

The agency quoted a source close to the Iranian delegation in New York for the UN General Assembly meetings, saying that the delegation "does not intend to conduct negotiations with the United States".

IRNA stated that "Iran's views and positions were clearly and explicitly conveyed to the American side last Tuesday, through a Qatari intermediary", noting that the Iranian delegation will return to Tehran on Tuesday.

Trump told the Axios website on Sunday that he expects to resume talks with Iran next week, after rejecting an Iranian proposal to halt hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days.

As a precondition for reopening the Strait, Iran demands a halt to hostilities on all fronts for seven days, including Lebanon, the release of its frozen assets, the lifting of sanctions on Iranian oil, and the end of the US naval blockade on its ports.

According to Axios, citing sources familiar with the file, indirect talks between Washington and Tehran could have taken place starting Monday, following days of indirect talks between US envoys Steve Wittkoff and Jared Kushner and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital passage for global oil supplies and is central to the conflict between the United States and Iran, which has reached an impasse after about seven months since it began. Since then, Iran has effectively closed the Strait, while the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ports.

The United States has not launched strikes on Iran since September 1, despite subsequent attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
