Hassan inspects Aqaba ports and directs the acceleration of expansion and development projects

Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan inspected the workflow at the Aqaba port system, emphasizing the necessity of accelerating the completion of expansion and development projects, and enhancing the efficiency and capacity of the ports to keep pace with the increase in work volume and strengthen Aqaba's position as a key regional gateway for trade and logistics services.

This came during the Prime Minister's visit to the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management, where he chaired a meeting in which he stressed the importance of continuing to develop the port system, praising the efforts of the workers and those in charge of it, and the necessity of doubling efforts during the coming period, in light of the circumstances and challenges the region is witnessing.

Hassan also inspected the oil port in Aqaba, stressing the importance of development and expansion projects and increasing capacity, which are scheduled to be completed within the next two years, contributing to strengthening energy supply security and consolidating Aqaba's position as a major destination for supplying petroleum products to a number of brotherly countries.

The Prime Minister affirmed that Jordan, under its Hashemite leadership, possesses the ability to turn challenges into real opportunities, noting that the developments witnessed in Aqaba reflect the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the diligent follow-up by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, which has served as a motivation to continue work and achievement.

Hassan pointed out that the government took important decisions last year to keep pace with the acceleration in the work of the port system and its development, which had an impact on accelerating handling and clearance procedures, enhancing transit trade, facilitating the work of importers and exporters, and increasing the storage capacity of yards, in addition to supporting the sustainability of supply chains and strategic inventory and developing infrastructure.

In a related context, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of continuing to develop port infrastructure and logistics services in conjunction with the implementation of the Aqaba – Shidiya – Ma'an railway project, for which the foundation stone was laid about two weeks ago, contributing to increasing the efficiency of freight, storage, and transit trade, and strengthening Aqaba's position on the transport and logistics map in the region.

He pointed out that the Aqaba – Ma'an dry port project represents a strategic development project and a priority for the government, within the framework of efforts aimed at developing the transport system and enhancing integration between ports, freight networks, and logistics services.

He also emphasized the necessity of adhering to the highest safety and security standards in the ports, which enhances confidence in them and raises their regional competitiveness.

Regarding support for the industrial sector, Hassan noted that the project to supply industrial clusters in Aqaba and Quwayra with natural gas, which the government inaugurated about three months ago, will reduce operational costs for national industries, enhance their competitiveness, and support Jordanian exports, integrating with efforts to develop the port system and paving the way for establishing new projects during the coming period.
