Hajj Tawfiq and the Syrian Ambassador Discuss Ways to Enhance Cooperation Between the Two Countries

Amman Chamber of Commerce President Khalil Hajj Tawfiq discussed mechanisms and ways to enhance and develop economic and trade cooperation relations between Jordan and Syria and to facilitate transportation and transit.

This came during a meeting between Hajj Tawfiq and the Charge d'Affaires of the Syrian Embassy in Jordan, Ihsan Al-Ruman.

According to a statement by the Chamber on Thursday, Hajj Tawfiq confirmed that the current stage requires partnership between the two countries to strengthen their economic relations, overcome any difficulties, and move them into the implementation phase, converting understandings into joint programs and projects that serve their higher interests.

He stressed the need for Syria's economic relationship with the Kingdom to be exceptional based on the historical ties that bind them with the Kingdom, and for any measures taken in this regard to start from their fraternal framework, due to the entanglement of interests.

Hajj Tawfiq pointed to the need to activate the signed bilateral agreements and to harness all capabilities to build partnerships between the two countries in many economic sectors, especially in the fields of food security, information technology, agriculture, contracting, consulting, transportation, infrastructure, and others, confirming the readiness of Amman Chamber of Commerce to provide the training and qualification services needed by the Syrian side.

For his part, Ambassador Al-Ruman indicated the readiness of the embassy to cooperate with the Chamber and support any steps that contribute to the development of economic relations between the two countries, and affirmed that the new Syria is open to cooperation in all economic fields with the Jordanian side, praising the efforts being made under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to support the Syrian state in various international forums.

He stressed the need for the economic relations between the two countries to rise to the level of the historical and fraternal ties that bind them, expressing hope that the next phase will witness a new launch for economic cooperation led by private sector institutions and intensifying communication and meetings between the business communities.

Ambassador Al-Ruman pointed to the efforts being made by Jordan in the field of providing training and qualification for Syrian human resources and benefiting from the experiences of the Kingdom and transferring them in administrative and many other aspects and the laws governing the economic sector.
