The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Muhammad Raslan, confirmed that some Jordanian banks have applied to invest in the Syrian market, while Jordanian banks currently operating in Syria are seeking to increase their investments.
Raslan said, during the opening of the second edition of the Jordan Financial Technology Festival in the Dead Sea, that the coming period will witness the involvement of more global banking institutions in working directly within the Syrian market.
He explained that activating the "SWIFT" system in Syria requires compliance with international standards and requirements related to combating money laundering and financing terrorism.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria stated that the "MoneyGram" service has returned between Jordanian banks and Syrian banks through one of the Jordanian banks and there are existing transfers today between Jordanian and Syrian banks.
Raslan pointed out that the development of financial technology can contribute to restoring stability, by expanding financial inclusion and providing reliable electronic financial channels.
He added that electronic payment and transfer systems represent one of the regulatory pillars of this approach, allowing the testing and development of new financial solutions within a clear regulatory environment.
He stressed that Syria is seeking to build a model that suits the stage of rebuilding and modernizing the banking sector, and provides space for investment and innovation in financial technology.
