The King Abdullah II Cultural Center in Zarqa will host the screening of the Italian film “Gloria” on Tuesday, September 22, as part of the 38th edition of the European Film Festival, at 5:00 PM, organized by the Royal Film Commission of Jordan - Zarqa Film Center, in cooperation with the Zarqa Directorate of Culture.
The film, spoken in Italian and subtitled in Arabic and English, narrates events taking place in 1800 at a music institute near Venice, which combines an orphanage, a music conservatory, and a convent, where Teresa, a young maid nicknamed “the mute” by those around her, lives despite possessing exceptional musical talent.
Teresa’s life changes when she discovers a piano hidden in one of the institute’s storerooms, and she begins to play in secret, before her music attracts four young female musicians, leading to a musical experiment that results in the composition of new works that challenge the rules imposed by the institution, coinciding with preparations for the Pope’s visit and an important concert.
The film presents a story in which music intersects with creativity and freedom, and sheds light on female musical talents that have remained outside historical narratives for long periods.
The film is rated for those over 16 years old, and the screening is free to the public, with mandatory prior registration via the designated link to attend.
