The opening ceremony featured a musical performance celebrating the soundtracks of some of the most famous films in cinema history, with the participation of soprano Dima Bawab, mezzo-soprano Julia Ditte-Ferran, tenor Jean Miannay, baritone Jean-Christophe Lanièce, and pianist Marie Olivon.
The festival is hosting a number of European filmmakers, including the directors of two films representing Cyprus and Austria, who will participate in screenings of their works and discussion sessions with the audience following the screenings.
EU Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas said that cinema has a unique ability to bring people closer together, noting that the festival represents a space to learn about the bonds that unite Jordanians and Europeans through cinema, and the shared feelings and aspirations it carries.
For his part, Managing Director of the Royal Film Commission Mohannad Al-Bakri emphasized that the Commission's participation in the festival is in line with its goals of spreading cinematic culture and enhancing the presence of cinema in society, pointing out that film festivals constitute a space for cultural exchange and dialogue, and are not limited to screening films.
Festival screenings are held at the Royal Film Commission headquarters in Amman as well as in a number of governorates, allowing audiences outside the capital to follow the screenings and accompanying events. All festival screenings and events are free to the public. (European External Action Service)
