Fuel.. Tighten your belt!

If the government makes its decisions regarding fuel according to a formula of rise and fall, the citizen can set for themselves a parallel equation based on reducing consumption whenever costs rise, searching for more economical alternatives, and abandoning some habits that have become an additional burden on their pocket.

Perhaps the measures taken by the government regarding the fuel pricing for this November provide a clear model for this policy; it decided to freeze diesel and kerosene prices despite the rise in their global costs, while it limited the increase in 90-octane gasoline by 30 fils per liter, and 95-octane gasoline by 15 fils, within the framework of a policy of gradation and limiting the reflection of global hikes on citizens and the economy.

What is remarkable about these figures is that the expected actual cost per liter of diesel reached about 1034 fils, while its selling price remained at 900 fils. As for kerosene, its actual cost reached about 1048 fils, while its price stabilized at 550 fils per liter. These figures reflect the scale of the differences borne by the government, the total of which in subsidies and price differences borne since the beginning of the crisis has reached about 290 million dinars.

The issue, simply put, is not just about the price of a liter of gasoline or diesel, but about a consumption culture that needs review. How many trips can be dispensed with? How many short trips can be completed on foot? How many cars move daily with only one person on board, while more than one person could share the same trip? And how much fuel do we waste due to uneconomical driving?

In conclusion, be a partner.. regarding fuel. Just as the government gradually raises prices, let the citizen gradually reduce consumption and review their patterns. Let the partnership in facing energy costs be a mutual responsibility, not limited to pricing decisions alone, but extending to our daily behavior and the way we consume. The crisis is not managed by price increases alone, but also requires awareness in consumption.
