Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Thursday that a permanent solution to the Palestinian issue requires the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
During his speech at the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, Fidan stressed that the commitment to peace and mutual trust must apply to all members of the conference.
He continued, "We cannot maintain this commitment at a time when Israel, a member of CICA, is violating the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people by pursuing a policy of systematic oppression."
He added: "We must take a firm stance in supporting the rights of Palestine, a member of the conference, and confront the ongoing injustice and grave violations. A permanent solution requires the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders."
