Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Tuesday that mutual attacks in the Gulf region undermine efforts to de-escalate and end the war between the United States and Iran, calling for an immediate halt, and adding that Ankara attaches special importance to the stability of its neighbor Iran.
In a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart in Baku, Fidan also stressed the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and to return to the situation that existed before the outbreak of the war.
He added that Turkey is in contact with all relevant parties in an effort to find a solution to this crisis.
The Sultanate of Oman had postponed a regional meeting scheduled to be held in Salalah between Gulf countries and Iran to discuss possible arrangements regarding the Strait of Hormuz, with the aim of creating conditions for a dialogue that leads to understandings that support the security and stability of the region. Tehran said the postponement came at the request of some countries in the region and by mutual decision with Muscat.
