A US military F-16 fighter jet crashed in the northern US state of Michigan, while the pilot managed to eject, the military announced Thursday, confirming reports by local media.
The Texas Air National Guard wrote on Facebook that one of its "F-16 aircraft" had "crashed during a routine training mission" near Traverse City.
The unit added that the pilot was able to eject safely and that the incident is under investigation, without providing further details.
For its part, local authorities reported on Facebook that an evacuation order for an area extending about 1.6 kilometers around the crash site was "in effect," without providing further details.
Michigan Senator Gary Peters confirmed on the X platform that he is "closely monitoring the situation" while working to "get more information."
