The office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, said on Thursday that the UN Security Council will hold an emergency session this evening to discuss recent developments in the Arab country.
This came in a statement published by the office on the American platform "X", indicating that the Security Council will hold a session at 19:00 (GMT) to discuss developments in the Yemen crisis.
It added that Grundberg will provide a briefing to the Security Council on the latest developments in Yemen, without providing further details.
The emergency session comes amid military escalation between government forces and the Houthis on several fronts, particularly in the governorates of Taiz (west), Al-Jawf (north), and Al-Bayda (center), amidst airstrikes targeting the group's positions.
Earlier on Thursday, Yemeni government forces announced the formation of a command center south of the city of Mocha near the Bab al-Mandab Strait, following breaches carried out by the Houthi group on several fronts in the west of the country.
In contrast, activists on social media posted photos they claimed were of Houthi militants after they took control of the Hays and Al-Khawkhah districts in the south of Al-Hudaydah governorate.
Meanwhile, private Yemeni media, including the "Al-Masdar Online" website (private), reported that Houthi forces had reached the strategic port of Mocha on the Red Sea, following their control of Hays and Al-Khawkhah.
Yemen has been witnessing a war since the Houthis took control of the capital, Sanaa, and several governorates in September 2014, before an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
