Council of Church Heads: Al-Karak crime will not terrorize us nor undermine our determination

The Council of Church Heads in Jordan affirmed that the terrorist act targeting the Greek Orthodox Church of Saint George in Hammoud, in Al-Karak Governorate, "will not terrorize us, will not undermine our determination, and will only increase our steadfastness in our homeland, Jordan."

The Council said in a denunciation statement that the crime, despite the magnitude of its pain, will only increase Jordanians' loyalty to their Hashemite leadership and their solidarity and cohesion in confronting everything that targets Jordan's security, stability, and national unity.

The Council emphasized that the deep-rooted brotherhood uniting Muslims and Christians in Jordan is not a fleeting slogan, but a shared history and an authentic partnership in building the nation and preserving its resources, stressing that it will remain stronger than all attempts at sedition and division.

It added that the terrorist act targeting the church, which resulted in the martyrdom of a number of innocents and the injury of others, represents an assault on the sanctity of life, the holiness of places of worship, and the security, stability, and authentic values of the nation.

The Council stressed that the crime does not represent religious, human, and national values, and has no relation to the principles upon which Jordanians were raised, which are based on love, tolerance, mutual respect, and the preservation of human dignity.

It affirmed that targeting places of worship and safe civilians is a crime condemned by all standards, requiring the uncovering of its circumstances, the pursuit of its perpetrators, and bringing them to justice to receive their punishment in accordance with the provisions of the law, expressing confidence in the security agencies and national institutions and their ability to protect the homeland and safeguard its security.

The Council pointed out that the members of the churches in Jordan are an authentic part of the nation's fabric and partners in its history, present, and future, affirming the churches' commitment to their spiritual and national mission calling for love and peace, and their rejection of any incitement discourse or endeavor aimed at stirring up sedition or destabilizing the national ranks.

It called on the people of Jordan to adhere to calm, wisdom, solidarity, and mutual support, and to stand as one rank behind the Hashemite leadership to preserve Jordan's security, stability, and unity.

The Council extended its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs and to the people of Jordan, praying to God to have mercy on the martyrs, grant their families patience and solace, heal the wounded, and protect Jordan, its people, and its Hashemite leadership from all evil.
