Crowds of Irbid city residents participated in the solidarity vigil called for by Irbid Municipality this evening, Sunday, 25-10-2026, in the municipality's northern square.
Participants in the vigil raised pictures, slogans, and banners expressing the horror of the incident, emphasizing the unity of Jordanians during these difficult circumstances the country is going through.
The head of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee, Imad Al-Azzam, said that Jordan has fought, throughout time, wars against these criminals who do not distinguish between Muslim and Christian, target Jordan, its security, and its societal peace, and seek to divide its unified and cohesive ranks.
Al-Azzam added that what is reassuring in this circumstance is that the head of state, His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein, may God protect him, was at the head of the crisis cell, and confirmed beyond any doubt that the hand of justice will reach every terrorist, that we will face the terrorist act with the severest penalties, and that Jordan will strike with an iron fist anyone who transgresses against this country.
During the vigil, Al-Azzam announced the naming of one of the city's streets after the martyr Dr. Fadi Halsa, one of the victims of the terrorism that targeted a house of worship in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate.
For his part, Father Dionysius Haddad, pastor of the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Irbid and director of the Ecclesiastical Court office in northern Jordan, affirmed that this painful incident is nothing but a stab in the side of the nation and the heart of every honorable Jordanian who was pained and affected by this cowardly act.
Haddad added that a homeland ruled by His Majesty King Abdullah II and protected by the security services has nothing to fear, and is capable of uprooting terrorism and holding the perpetrators accountable.
He continued that the people of Irbid, the "Bride of the North," like the people of all Jordanian governorates, live in harmony and unique coexistence among their people, regardless of their religious and political affiliations.
The Director of Irbid Awqaf, Dr. Firas Abu Khait, indicated that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the prophet of mercy and tolerance for the whole world, emphasizing that this national vigil expresses clear rejection of all forms of violence and solidarity with the families at the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church in Karak Governorate.
He added that human dignity is protected in Islam, which forbids killing a soul except for a just cause, and that no religion permits the killing of innocents and targeting houses of worship, noting that targeting a church is nothing but an unacceptable crime that reflects only a deviant ideology.
In his speech, Father Firas Arida said that this vigil is one where feelings of sadness are mixed with the loftiness of pride and dignity, and in it, we renew, from one heart and with a voice pulsing with loyalty, our adherence to our national unity.
He added that Jordanians renew their absolute loyalty to the wise Hashemite leadership, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein, and walk behind their banner and steady steps in safeguarding our internal front, protecting our sanctities, and preserving the oasis of security and safety that distinguishes our precious Jordan, believing that the wisdom of the Hashemites is the impenetrable dam that preserves the Kingdom's elevation and stability.
He further stated that Jordanians are committed to the path of their leadership and confirm their absolute and certain confidence in the security services and the armed forces, the sleepless eye and the fortified shield that protects the sanctuary of this homeland and watches over the security of its citizens; they are the protectors of the homeland and its impenetrable fence that we boast of to the world.
