Church leaders in Jordan appreciate the approval of amendments to the Christian Denominations Councils Law

The Council of Church Leaders in Jordan, on behalf of all churches and their faithful, extends thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II, Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, and the members of the Council of Ministers, for their deep understanding and sincere interest in issues affecting the lives of Christian citizens, and for their response to the demands submitted by the Council of Church Leaders in Jordan regarding the amendments to the Christian Denominations Councils Law of 2014, leading to the approval of the amended draft law for Christian Denominations Councils of 2026 and its referral to the Council of the Nation to complete its constitutional stages.

The Council said in a statement on Sunday, "We view this important national step with great appreciation, as it reflects the Jordanian state's keenness, under its wise Hashemite leadership, to safeguard the rights of all its citizens, respect their religious particularities, and promote the principles of citizenship, justice, and equality, within the framework of a state of law and institutions."

The Council of Church Leaders in Jordan emphasized that Christians in Jordan are not a minority separate from the fabric of society, but are an integral and rooted part of the nation's history, identity, and journey, and are members of its tribes, families, and partners in its construction, renaissance, and protection of its achievements. Jordanian citizenship is the unifying basis under which rights and duties are equal, and through which the values of national unity and coexistence are strengthened.

The Council appreciated the spirit of cooperation and consensus that prevailed among Christian churches during the work on preparing the proposed amendments, which resulted in the unified law of wills, inheritance, and adoption among the churches, responding to the needs and aspirations of our children, achieving more stability and reassurance in their family and domestic affairs.

It said, "While expressing our pride in this step, we look forward with confidence to the Council of the Nation, in both its chambers, the Senate and the House of Representatives, to continue its national and legislative role in approving the amended draft law for Christian Denominations Councils of 2026 in accordance with constitutional procedures, in preparation for its entry into force."

The statement pointed out, "On this occasion, we extend our thanks and appreciation to all those who contributed to the completion of this work, from official, ecclesiastical, and legal entities, and to everyone who made a sincere effort to achieve this consensus, affirming that what has been achieved is the result of joint cooperation and constructive dialogue."

The statement continued, "We pray to God to protect our dear Jordan, to preserve its security and stability, and to protect His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II, and to guide all state institutions for the good of the nation and its people."
