The head of the Bani Obeid Municipality Committee, Riyad Al-Jarrah, confirmed that the municipality's technical and field crews carried out a comprehensive inspection tour during which they identified all hot spots and vital points that experienced a rise in water levels during the first rainfall, especially in the Al-Sarih and Al-Husn areas, to determine the causes of blockages and implement radical solutions for them.
These intensive field movements come in the wake of complaints received by the municipality from local residents, and the circulation of photos and video clips on social media that showed rising water levels and their accumulation on some main roads and residential neighborhoods, amid public demands for immediate intervention and the development of drainage networks to prevent the repetition of these scenes as the rainy season intensifies.
Al-Jarrah explained that technical teams immediately began implementing urgent solutions to address those hot spots, specifically in the "Al-Raqimat" area in Al-Sarih, in addition to critical sites in Al-Husn, by clearing channels and facilitating the flow of rainwater to prevent its accumulation. He pointed out that the municipality has obligated the contractors carrying out rainwater drainage network tenders to expedite the completion of works and remove any field obstacles hindering the work progress.
Al-Jarrah revealed that the municipality had recently launched a new tender for the construction and development of rainwater drainage networks worth approximately 500,000 dinars (half a million dinars), with the aim of raising infrastructure efficiency and accommodating rainfall runoff quantities in the most affected areas, as part of a comprehensive plan targeting the resolution of all recurring problems in the district.
He added that field workshops were able, during the past hours, to remove large quantities of silt, dirt, and sediment washed away by the first rainfall, which had led to the closure of some drains. He emphasized that the municipality deals with all citizens' observations and complaints with the highest degree of seriousness and works around the clock to maintain the safety of residents' lives and property and ensure the readiness of the infrastructure for all weather conditions.
