Amman Municipality Prepares to Activate Smart Devices to Monitor Smoking Violations

Amman Greater Municipality is preparing to launch the 2026–2028 plan to enhance a smoke-free environment, including an electronic system for monitoring violations and smart smoke sensors, along with the campaigns 'Smoke-Free Gardens' and 'Our Health is a Trust' for schools, after benefiting over 25,000 people from awareness programs during the first eight months of 2026.

The Municipality said that during the same period, it implemented 639 lectures and awareness sessions, benefiting 25,439 people, while the 'Clean Breath' digital campaign reached 61,000 users, recording more than 159,000 views and about 2,500 interactions.

In the context of monitoring, specialized teams conducted 253 inspection visits, during which they recorded 71 smoking violations and issued 36 warnings, with intensified monitoring rounds in parks and public facilities.

In the field of supporting smoking cessation, 1,550 visitors benefited from the clinics' services, and 418 of them managed to quit smoking, bringing the total number of quitters since the clinics' establishment to over 2,177 people, coinciding with the opening of the fourth clinic in the main Municipality building.

The Municipality is implementing the 'Amman Free of Smoking' initiative in cooperation with the Vital Strategies organization, through awareness and monitoring programs and support for those wishing to quit smoking.

The 2026–2028 plan aims to enhance smoking control in city facilities, expand the scope of awareness, and benefit from smart technologies to monitor violations, along with promoting smoke-free parks and schools.
