Amman Municipality Participates in a Dialogue Seminar on Cultural Development at the Book Fair

Dr. Thamer Al-Shubaki, Deputy Director of the City for Community Development at the Greater Amman Municipality, presented the role of the Municipality in cultural development during a seminar held as part of the cultural program of the Amman International Book Fair, titled "The Role of Civil Society Institutions in Cultural Development (Amman Municipality as a Model)".

During the seminar, which was moderated by Dr. Duaa Al-Hajahjah, Al-Shubaki said that the Amman Municipality views cultural development as a sustainable process that contributes to building the human being and enhancing the quality of life, noting that the role of the Municipality has evolved from sponsoring cultural events to working on planning and empowering the cultural landscape through cultural centers, public libraries, community spaces, and cultural programs and initiatives that target various segments of society and areas of the capital.

He pointed out that achieving cultural development requires an active partnership between Amman Municipality, local and civil society institutions, along with the Ministry of Culture, the Union of Publishers, cultural associations and institutions, and the private sector, in order to identify the cultural needs of the community, integrate efforts, and expand the circle of participation and reach different segments of society.

During the seminar, Al-Shubaki addressed a number of topics related to the development of cultural work, including the most prominent of which are the justice in the distribution of cultural services and spaces, the protection of the cultural heritage and memory of Amman, the support of creators and youth initiatives, the development of public libraries, the digital transformation of cultural services, and the enhancement of the presence of arts and literature in public spaces, leading to the development of long-term cultural strategies that enhance Amman's status as a cradle of creativity and culture.
