Amman Ahliya: King's Speech at the United Nations is an Expression of Protecting National Interests, Supporting the Palestinian People, and Safeguarding the Holy Sites

The family of Amman Ahliya University, represented by the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees, the Chairman and members of the Board of Directors, the University President and his deputies, and the academic and administrative bodies and students of the University, issued a statement of support and solidarity with the positions conveyed in the speech of His Majesty King Abdullah II before the United Nations General Assembly, which placed the international community before its legal, moral, and political responsibilities, and presented an integrated Jordanian vision for dealing with the crises of the region, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue.

The University affirmed in its statement that the royal speech was a great expression of the constants of the Jordanian state and its national interests, and its responsibility towards the issues of its nation, foremost of which is the Palestinian issue, and in defending the interests, security, and stability of Jordan, and the right of the Palestinian people to freedom, independence, and the establishment of their independent state, without relinquishing the fundamental constants, at the forefront of which is the Hashemite custodianship of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and the continuous support for UNRWA, the protection of the rights of refugees, and keeping the conflict away from any religious sectarian framework.

It pointed out that the speech clearly exposed the occupying state, and the danger of its continuation in settlement policies, land confiscation, and displacement in the West Bank, and also placed the international community before the reality of what is happening in the Gaza Strip of the destruction of civilian infrastructure, targeting civilians, and tightening the stranglehold on the Palestinians, and warned that the continuation of this undermines directly the possibility of establishing a viable Palestinian state, and threatens the foundation upon which the two-state solution is based.

The statement valued His Majesty's affirmation in his speech that any threat to the northern borders or to Jordan's water security is a direct threat to national security, which Jordan will deal with firmly and forcefully, and that the Kingdom continues to play its role in combating terrorism, drug smuggling, and contributing to the protection of the region's security, while striving to enhance its position as a center for trade, industry, and technology, and a bridge linking the countries of the region and their economic and humanitarian interests.

The statement declared absolute support for the positions of His Majesty in his speech before the United Nations General Assembly, and standing behind His Majesty, the army, and the security agencies, in protecting the security, stability, sovereignty, and interests of the people of Jordan.
