Al-Tarawneh tells Alrai: Banning shisha in parks protects Jordanians' health and safeguards their right to clean air

Consultant in Pulmonary Diseases and Secretary-General of the Arab Thoracic Society, Dr. Mohammed Hassan Al-Tarawneh, commended the directives of Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan to the Ministries of Health and Interior regarding the strict enforcement of banning the introduction of shisha into parks and public facilities.

Al-Tarawneh stated that the decision represents an important step in promoting preventive health and protecting the right of citizens and their families to picnic in a healthy and safe environment, away from the risks of passive smoking.

He explained that parks and public facilities represent open spaces for relaxation and recreation; however, the spread of shisha in them hinders the achievement of this purpose due to the smoke and harmful substances it produces, including toxic gases and heavy metals resulting from the combustion of charcoal and tobacco.

He pointed out that curbing shisha smoking in public places contributes to protecting children, asthma patients, individuals suffering from chronic respiratory diseases, and the elderly from exposure to smoke and its complications.

Al-Tarawneh emphasized the importance of effectively implementing the decision through cooperation between security, regulatory, and health authorities, calling on citizens to adhere to the instructions and cooperate in preserving parks and public facilities as healthy, civilized, and safe spaces for everyone.
