Al-Masri emphasizes the importance of partnership with the "Green Climate Fund" to expand climate finance for Jordan

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration, Chairman of the Cities and Villages Development Bank (CVDB), Engineer Walid Al-Masri, emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and expanding the scope of climate finance to support projects aligned with national priorities and the needs of municipalities and local communities, while enhancing their ability to confront the effects of climate change.

This came during the Cities and Villages Development Bank's reception of a delegation from the Green Climate Fund, which included the Director of the Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Middle East Division, Thomas Eriksson, and the Fund's Regional Director, Dr. Amjad Al-Mahdi, to discuss opportunities for joint cooperation and the development of climate projects at both the national and regional levels.

Al-Masri explained that the importance of the partnership with the Fund is not limited to financing projects, but extends to building institutional capacities, developing programs, and strengthening partnerships between national institutions, international entities, and the private sector, contributing to transforming climate priorities into implementable projects with sustainable developmental impact.

He stressed the importance of the accreditation of the Cities and Villages Development Bank by the Fund, as a strategic step to enhance Jordan's direct access to climate finance and enable the bank to link international resources with the needs of ministries, national and government institutions, and municipalities, and to develop projects eligible for funding.

The two sides discussed a number of priority areas, most notably "zero waste" projects, the circular economy, promoting reuse and recycling, and resource efficiency, which contributes to alleviating environmental and financial burdens on municipalities, in addition to water harvesting projects and the development of sustainable solutions that support local development.

Al-Masri emphasized the importance of developing early warning systems, raising the level of readiness to deal with climate risks, improving response speed, and reducing potential losses and damage to the population, infrastructure, and basic services, while taking into account the needs of municipalities and local communities.

Within the framework of strengthening regional cooperation, Al-Masri pointed to the importance of the regional dialogue scheduled to be held next December as an opportunity to exchange experiences, identify common priorities, and build partnerships between the public and private sectors and institutions concerned with finance, development, and climate action.

He indicated that strengthening these partnerships contributes to attracting climate finance, developing projects with tangible and sustainable impact, and consolidating Jordan's role in supporting climate action at the regional level.
