The National Center for Agricultural Research, in cooperation with the Agricultural Extension Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture, is implementing a specialized training course to develop mechanisms for linking scientific research and agricultural extension, which helps in delivering research techniques and recommendations to farmers and benefiting from them in improving production and income.
The course will continue until the 21st of this month, under the title "Strengthening the Links between Research and Extension and Effectively Transferring Technology to Increase Farmers' Income", with the participation of 10 researchers and agricultural extension officers from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The course covers the stages of the agricultural technology transfer process, starting from identifying farmers' needs and the problems they face, and ending with the application of appropriate techniques and monitoring their results.
It also examines the role of researchers and extension officers in exchanging information and benefiting from farmers' observations when determining research and extension priorities.
The program aims to help participants convert research results into practical recommendations that take into account the production and economic conditions of farmers, and to develop methods for providing extension services and monitoring the adoption of agricultural technologies and evaluating their impact.
The program includes scientific lectures, practical applications, and field visits, allowing participants to learn about the Jordanian experience in organizing the relationship between research and extension institutions, and to get acquainted with applied models for transferring agricultural techniques and practices to farmers.
The course is being implemented as part of the technical cooperation project to develop agricultural research and extension capabilities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, commissioned by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources in the region.
The implementation of the course is an extension of the cooperation between the Center and JICA in various agricultural and research fields, including fish farming, development of agricultural ponds, water resources management, and development of sustainable agricultural practices, alongside capacity-building and experience-sharing programs.
It is expected that the knowledge and experience gained by the participants will contribute to the development of agricultural extension programs in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, improving coordination between researchers and extension officers, and directing extension services towards the actual needs of farmers.
