The temporary capital police of Aden, Yemen (south), announced on Saturday the foiling of a plot targeting security and military forces and vital facilities, and the arrest of one of the accused with an explosive device and related materials in his possession.
The police said, in a statement, quoting the director of the police station in the Dar Saad district, Mosleh Al-Dhurani, that a security operation involving the police of the Kapota area resulted in the arrest of the accused and the discovery of the explosive device in his possession, following investigation, monitoring, and security follow-up.
The statement added that the investigation with the accused revealed, according to the investigation records, information about other explosive devices and targets that were planned to be targeted within Aden, along with people the accused said were linked to the plot.
It was reported that the accused admitted to receiving an explosive device for the purpose of targeting a military force on a main road in the temporary capital.
The statement pointed out that the investigation included information about other plots to target government and security headquarters using drones.
The police also presented a video recording of the accused giving some important information.
Aden police confirmed the continuation of investigations to uncover the circumstances of the case and reach the rest of the elements and parties linked to it, and to take legal action against those involved.
Aden, the seat of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, is witnessing strict security measures amid the ongoing war in the country for about 12 years between government forces and the Houthi group.
To date, several fronts in Yemen are witnessing a military escalation, amid renewed clashes between government forces and group fighters in a number of governorates, including Taiz, Marib, Al-Jawf, Al-Bayda, and Lahj.
These developments are part of a military escalation that began in early July 2026, the largest since the relative calm that followed the April 2022 truce.
The pace of fighting accelerated during September, leading to the Houthis' control of a number of vital centers in the provinces of Hodeidah and Taiz, including the strategic city of Al-Mukhah, reaching Mayun Island in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
Yemen has been witnessing a war since the Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, before the intervention of an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
