The British police announced that an accusation of planning a terrorist act targeting the Jewish community in Manchester (northwest England) was directed at two Iranian men.
The arrest of the two men comes nearly a year after a knife and firearm attack targeted the Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Heaton Park in north Manchester, where worshippers were celebrating Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Hebrew calendar,
The attack, which occurred on October 2, 2025, resulted in the death of two people.
The police statement on Friday explained that "Salam Ahadian (36 years old) from Liverpool, and Rahman Salehi (34 years old) from Salford, both of Iranian nationality, were arrested in Manchester on Sunday, September 20."
The police indicated in the statement that it is believed that the two men were "in contact with a third party residing abroad, possibly in Iran, as part of the plan."
The details of this plan have not been disclosed, but the police confirmed that they managed to "foil it."
Police official Vicki Evans said in the statement, "We do not believe that any threat to the public remains in this case."
She added, "We ask people to remain vigilant and to contact the police with any concerns."
Last year saw a series of attacks in the British capital targeting Jewish sites or linked to Israel.
